Amiens Quatre chenes joint development zone

FMp_zac-friant_01

The conversion of the Friant barracks allowed the city of Amiens to construct a new quarter and to open up the suburb of Béthune by installing businesses focusing on new technology and various public facilities. The challenge was to open up the site to the city and to transform the old military parade and training ground into spaces for daily life.

Leaning on the historic heritage of the barracks, the project aimed to re-proportion the empty spaces in order to give them an urban status, integrating its new functions. This work on scale has been matched with a fine choice of materials, thus making the link between the place’s history and a more contemporary image.
